The National Honors Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) is a National Dance Education Organization program created to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in student dancers. NHSDA is an opportunity to get together with other motivated dancers to make a positive difference in our community, grow as an artist, learn more about dance, and be recognized for the time and effort you put into your dance education in college and/or job applications. Please see below for more information.
Participation in our NHSDA Chapter is open to all middle and high school dancers. There is a $75 participation fee as well as fees to participate in events, including field trips and workshops. Students meet three times yearly with the chapter sponsor to plan, organize, and participate in events that benefit charities and/or the DCM NHSDA chapter. These events include the Choreographer's Showcase, a field trip, and volunteer projects. Dancers can participate in the NHSDA Chapter and Ballet Chesapeake concurrently.
NHSDA Dancers can attend a professional dance performance as a field trip. Past field trips have included a tour of the Kennedy Center and attendance at Washington Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet, and a backstage tour and attendance at Pennsylvania Ballet’s Don Quixote.
Each year the NHSDA Chapter at DCM holds a fundraiser concert to donate to a charity chosen by the students. The NHSDA Ensemble will perform their repertoire at this performance. Check the DCM newsletter for dates and times!
Over the years, our students have volunteered throughout our community with organizations such as Cool Kids Campaign, Humane Society of Harford County, Anna's House and more.
At Ballet Chesapeake, we are passionate about ballet and believe it should be accessible to everyone. Our founder, Sarah, started dancing at a young age and fell in love with the art form. She wanted to create a space where dancers of all levels could learn and grow.
Our mission at Ballet Chesapeake is to provide high-quality ballet education in a supportive and inclusive environment. We believe that ballet is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or ability. We strive to create a community where dancers can feel challenged and inspired.
Our team of experienced and dedicated teachers are committed to helping each student reach their full potential. They have trained at some of the top ballet schools and companies around the world and bring their expertise and passion to every class.
